On fluid/wall slippage

Certain (non polymeric) fluids show an anomalously low friction when flowing against well chosen solid walls. We discuss here one possible explanation, postulating that a gaseous film of small thickness h is present between fluid and wall. When h is smaller than the mean free path l of the gas (Knudsen regime) the Navier length b is expected to be independent of h and very large (microns).

Slippage Features

In this report, we present a novel feature detection technique for unstructured point clouds. We introduce a generalized concept of geometric features that detects locally uniquely identifiable keypoints as centroids of area with locally minimal slippage. We extend the concept to multiple scales and extract features using multi-scale mean shift clustering. In order to validate matches between f...

Self-Similar Rupture of Thin Liquid Films with Slippage

In this dissertation the formation of interfacial singularities of fluid surfaces is studied. Starting with a discussion of the most important physical effects, a two-dimensional model, which includes physical effects such as surface tension, intermolecular forces, and Navier-slip boundary conditions, is constructed. By applying symmetry assumptions and a reduction formalism1 this model can be ...

Force-induced DNA slippage.

DNA containing repetitive sequences displays richer dynamics than heterogeneous sequences. In the genome the number of repeat units of repetitive sequences, known as microsatellites, may vary during replication by DNA slippage and their expansion gives rise to serious disorders. We studied the mechanical properties of repetitive DNA using dynamic force spectroscopy and found striking difference...
